What is steel sheet?
Steel sheet is flat-rolled metal under 3 mm thickness, the lighter-gauge counterpart to plate and coil. Stainless steel sheet is cold-rolled and supplied in 2B, BA or No.4 finishes rather than the hot-rolled No.1 finish typical of plate, which gives sheet the smoother, brighter surface used in visible fabrication, kitchen equipment and architectural work. Standard steel sheet sizes are 1250 x 2500 mm and 1500 x 3000 mm, with other dimensions available as a cut-to-size order. As an ISO 9001:2015 certified (Certificate No. 1283438) stockist and supplier based in Mumbai, operating since 2003, Nandini Steel holds SS sheet ex-stock across the core stainless and nickel-alloy grades for immediate dispatch, and every order ships with an EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2 mill test certificate.
Steel sheet grades: SS 304, 316L, 904L and nickel alloys
Our steel sheet range is built around the same grade logic as our plate and coil stock, because the choice of grade depends on the corrosion duty, not the product form. 304 sheet and 304L sheet suit general fabrication, food contact and architectural panels, while 316 sheet and 316L sheet add molybdenum for chloride and marine exposure, with the low-carbon L sheet preferred where sheet is welded. For sulfuric acid and high-chloride duty beyond 316L, 904L sheet steps up with its copper-bearing, super-austenitic chemistry, one of the grades named on Nandini Steel's ISO certification. Where sour service or mixed oxidizing-reducing acid resistance is needed, we also stock nickel-alloy sheet in Incoloy 825 sheet and Inconel 625 sheet.
Steel sheet thickness and gauge
| Thickness (mm) | Approximate gauge |
|---|---|
| 0.5 mm | 24 gauge |
| 0.8 mm | 21 gauge |
| 1.0 mm | 20 gauge |
| 1.2 mm | 18 gauge |
| 1.5 mm | 16 gauge |
| 2.0 mm | 14 gauge |
| 3.0 mm | 11 gauge (plate cutoff) |
Gauge numbers are approximate and vary slightly by standard, so we always confirm sheet thickness in millimeters on the RFQ and the mill test certificate. Our stainless steel weight chart and weight calculator help convert thickness, size and grade into sheet weight before ordering.
Steel sheet finishes: 2B, BA, No.4
Stainless steel sheet is supplied in a small set of standard finishes, each suited to a different end use. 2B is the common dull, cold-rolled finish used across general fabrication; BA (bright annealed) is a reflective, mirror-like finish favored for appliances and architectural panels; and No.4 is a brushed, directional-grain finish common in food service and hygienic equipment. Our guide to stainless steel finishes explains how 2B, BA and No.4 are produced and where each performs best so buyers can specify the right surface for the application.
Standards: ASTM A240 / ASME SA-240
Stainless steel sheet from our stock conforms to ASTM A240 and ASME SA-240, the governing specifications covering chemical composition, mechanical properties and finish requirements for 304, 316 and 904L sheet. These are the same standards that govern our stainless plate and coil, which keeps grade chemistry and testing consistent across product forms. Every sheet shipment carries an EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2 mill test certificate referencing the applicable heat.
How we quote steel sheet
Steel sheet pricing is RFQ-only because sheet pricing tracks the base metal market along with the specific finish and thickness ordered. Send us the grade, thickness, finish, sheet size and quantity, and we build the quote from a base price, a nickel and molybdenum alloy surcharge for grades carrying those elements, thickness and width extras for non-standard cuts, and a quantity-based adjustment. Quotes are issued the same day the RFQ is received, and we ship steel sheet to more than 36 countries with export documentation included.
