Stainless steel 904L sheet is highly resistant to sulphuric and phosphoric acids, as well as damage from chlorides and pitting. This makes it ideal for chemical processing, offshore, and pharmaceutical equipment. The alloy contains 19.0-23.0% chromium, 23.0-28.0% nickel, 4.0-5.0% molybdenum, and 1.0-2.0% copper. It has a minimum tensile strength of 490 MPa (71 ksi), a yield strength of 220 MPa (31 ksi), and at least 35% elongation. Thanks to its high nickel and molybdenum content, 904L performs much better than standard austenitic stainless steels in harsh, acid environments.
We stock 904L stainless steel sheets from 0.5 mm to 80 mm thick, in widths up to 2500 mm and lengths up to 6000 mm, mainly in hot-rolled form with 2B, BA, No.4, and mirror finishes. Super austenitic 904L sheet is the standard material for sulphuric acid handling equipment. Reactors, heat exchangers, piping systems, and storage tanks rely on 904L’s copper-enhanced acid resistance.
Oil and Gas Industry
Alloy 904L sheet serves offshore platform equipment exposed to sour gas and chloride-rich produced water. Process piping, separator vessels, and flare systems also use this grade.
Pharmaceutical and Food Processing
