Nandini Steel is a trusted boiler quality plate stockist and supplier in Mumbai, India. Boiler quality plates (also referred to as BQ plates or pressure vessel plates) conform to ASTM A516 / ASME SA-516 standards. Our stock covers 6 mm to 200 mm thickness in hot-rolled, IBR-approved plates, supplied with mill test certificates for boiler and pressure vessel fabrication.
BQ stands for Boiler Quality. These carbon steel and alloy steel plates are designed for high-pressure service at medium to elevated temperatures, depending on the grade. We offer ASTM A516 / ASME SA-516 in Grades 55, 60, 65, and 70, with dual-certified (60/70) and triple-certified (60/65/70) plates.
We stock BQ steel plates in widths from 1,250 mm to 3,500 mm and lengths up to 14,000 mm. Cut-to-length service is available across every grade. Dual (60/70) and triple (60/65/70) certifications reduce inventory holding costs for fabricators stocking multiple grades. Delivery conditions include as-rolled, normalised, quenched and tempered, and stress relieved as per customer requirement.
Our boiler steel plates supply industries including power plants, oil and gas refineries, petrochemical plants, and storage tank fabricators. We supply HIC-tested plates (per NACE TM0284) and NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 compliant materials for sour service environments.
Nandini Steel is an ISO 9001-certified company. Contact us for current stock and pricing on boiler-quality plates.

Boiler Quality Plates Available Grades
We supply ASTM A516 / ASME SA-516 boiler quality plates in seven specification variants. Each variant is detailed below with its key properties and typical applications.
Moderate-strength carbon steel pressure vessel plate with 415–550 MPa tensile and 220 MPa minimum yield. Common for boiler drums, storage tanks, and low-pressure vessels at ambient to moderate temperatures.
Highest-strength grade in the A516 family with 485–620 MPa tensile and 260 MPa minimum yield. The most-specified grade worldwide for high-pressure boilers, heat exchangers, and refinery pressure vessels.
Dual-certified plate meeting both Grade 60 AND Grade 70 chemistry and mechanical requirements simultaneously. One stock item serves two specifications, reducing inventory holding for fabricators handling mixed-grade orders.
Dual-certified Gr. 60/70 plate that additionally passes Hydrogen Induced Cracking (HIC) testing per NACE TM0284. Required for wet H₂S sour service where sulphide stress corrosion cracking is a risk.
Grade 60 plate that meets both NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 sour service certification AND HIC testing per NACE TM0284. Premium grade for sour service pressure vessels in upstream oil and gas.
Grade 70 plate combining NACE MR0175 sour service compliance with HIC testing per NACE TM0284. The high-strength option for sour service in refineries, separators, and downstream gas processing.
Dual-certified plate that undergoes furnace normalising. The plate is heated above the upper critical temperature (Ac3) and then air cooled to refine grain structure. Used for low-temperature service requiring Charpy V-notch impact testing.
Boiler Quality Plates Industrial Applications
Boiler quality plates are the foundation of equipment in industries requiring pressure containment at elevated temperatures. The following 5 primary sectors are the largest users of BQ plates:
Power Generation
Boiler drums, superheater headers, steam piping, and high-pressure feedwater equipment in coal, gas, and nuclear power plants.
Oil & Gas Refineries
Pressure vessels, separators, hydrocrackers, and storage tanks where API 650/620 codes apply.
Petrochemical Plants
Reactor vessels, distillation columns, and heat exchangers for ethylene, ammonia, and fertiliser production.
Storage Tanks & LPG Bullets
API 650 atmospheric tanks and API 620 low-pressure tanks for crude oil, refined products, and bulk chemicals.
Shipbuilding & Marine
Pressure vessels and structural plate for shipbuilding, LNG carriers, and offshore platforms (typically with normalising + impact testing).

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Boiler Quality Plate?
A boiler quality plate is a carbon or alloy steel plate manufactured to pressure vessel standards like ASTM A516 for high-temperature, high-pressure service.
What is the Difference Between IBR and Non-IBR Boiler Quality Plates?
IBR plates carry the Indian Boiler Regulations certification stamp required by Indian law for steam-generating boilers. Non-IBR plates meet the same ASTM/ASME specifications but without the IBR stamp. They are used for non-statutory pressure equipment, structural work, and export markets.
What Grades of Boiler Quality Plates Are Available?
Available grades include ASTM A516 Gr. 60/65/70 and A516 Gr. 60/70.
What Is the IS 2002 Equivalent in ASTM?
IS 2002 is broadly equivalent to ASTM A516 for moderate-temperature pressure vessel service. IS 2002 Grade 2A is nearly equivalent to A516 Grade 60/65. IS 2002 Grade 2B is similar to A516 Grade 70.
How to Calculate the Weight of a Boiler Quality Plate?
Use: Weight (kg) = Length (m) × Width (m) × Thickness (mm) × 7.85, where 7.85 is the unit-adjusted density of carbon steel. A 6000 x 2000 x 12 mm plate weighs 1,130.4 kg.
What is the current price of boiler quality plates?
Boiler quality plate prices in India range from ₹55 to ₹90 per kg (USD $1.05 to $1.60 per kg for export). Final pricing depends on grade, thickness, IBR/Non-IBR certification, and mill origin. Contact us for a detailed quotation.
